Hawes Down Infant
School, Kent
6 and 7 year-olds
The whole school took part in
a week-long project, which started with an assembly
to introduce the picture and to tell the story
behind it before the children began work in their
classes.
The ink and wash fish pictures were created by
6 and 7 year-olds after close observation of fish
in a science lesson. The children examined the
fish with magnifying glasses, before dissecting
them and inspecting their gills and scales. In
their drawings they paid particular attention
to shape and pattern. They also explored the different
effects of light on their colour.
