Painted family portraits

Flore C.E. Primary School

Both Foundation-aged children (3-5 years) and Key Stage 2 pupils (8-11 years) from Flore C. E. Primary School, Northampton, painted family portraits using 'The Marquise de Seignelay and Two of her Sons' as a starting point.

The younger children painted individual portraits of family members from photographs and memory. Each personal depiction describes the character of a loved one.

The older pupils tackled painting group portraits. These were carefully composed in preliminary sketches. Different family units and dynamics were discussed, and final images were made.
