Exploring chair design

Archbishop Wake CE VA Primary School

Year 3 and 4 children (7-9 year olds) looked closely at the construction of the different chairs in 'Two Boys and a Girl Making Music' before researching more chair designs on the internet and in magazines and books. They sketched their own ideas and made prototypes from a variety of materials, concentrating particularly on how much weight the models could sustain.

The final designs are made from wood with carefully measured mitred joints. The pupils learnt to use tools such as hacksaws and glue guns.
