Garden Suburb Infant School

All the pupils at Garden Suburb Infant School in North London took part in a wide range of learning experiences prompted by The Fighting Temeraire. During the term of the project, the whole school dressed up for 'Sailors' Day' and many of the children visited The National Maritime Museum.

Year 2 pupils (six to seven years old) investigated ships from different periods in history and various parts of the world, and imagined through role-play what life would have been like onboard. They then made collages using watercolour for the background and a range of materials such as felt, dowelling and buttons. The children also considered how artists make objects smaller to suggest distance, and experimented with this technique themselves.
