Sand sculpture

Kew College

This sand sculpture explores the geometrical shapes in Degas's 'Beach Scene'.

Students from Kew College looked at each character and object in the painting and simplified them into basic forms. The pupils learnt to recognise and describe 2-D and 3-D shapes. Lots of measuring and calculating was involved in making the individual solid elements of the sculpture. They were then covered in PVA and sand.
