Paintings of the Five Senses by Grafton Primary School
The areas of the painting representing the five senses were revealed to students through the use of 'windows': small sections of the painting. This gave students the opportunity to concentrate on the details within the painting, such as texture, colour, light, line, shape and form. Students were then asked to strongly emphasise each of the five senses using different techniques. For example, the cat's stare is very intensely focused on the bird. The opportunity to develop work based on Hogarth's painting of 'The Graham Children' gave the teachers involved an in-depth understanding of ways and means one can explore art to support other areas of the curriculum. |
