Image of weaving inspired by Degas's 'Beach Scene'.

What has this fishing net trawled in from Degas's 'Beach Scene'?

St. Luke's Primary School

After looking at Degas's 'Beach Scene' in detail the foundation pupils (aged 3-5 years old) at St. Luke's Primary School, in Kingston upon Thames, were encouraged to look for items that related to the original painting. They brought in objects from home and collected materials that were the same colours found in the painting. In small groups the children worked on the weaving. A reproduction of Degas's picture was always close by to refer to. Areas of the National Curriculum covered included art, literacy (speaking and listening), history (developing a sense of history) and maths (sorting and positioning sizes and shapes).
