Textiles panel and costumes
Wentworth CE Junior and Infant School
These collaborative textile pieces
were made by Year 1 and 2 pupils (five- to seven-year-olds).
They were inspired by the gathers, drapes, pleats and
ruffles on the children's clothes in 'Two Boys and a
Girl making Music'.
Each pupil started with a rectangle of fabric that was
similar in colour to a garment in the painting. They
practised various stitches which shaped the fabric in
different ways. Buttons were sewn on for decoration,
as well as to teach the children a basic skill. Some
of the rectangles were also made into costumes that
replicated those in the painting, then placed in a frame
to look like museum exhibits.
