Finger-painting trees

Castlecroft Primary School

These finger paintings were made by a Reception class (three- to four-year-olds) as part of an ambitious project involving every year group at Castlecroft Primary School in Wolverhampton.

The children used their fingers to create a sense of the trees' growth. They also looked carefully at the different colours of trees and grass in their playground and used a limited palette to produce a naturalistic effect.

Other children's responses included making three-dimensional models of the painting, finding out about Rubens, making a life-sized statue of him and building a castle for a role-play area.
