Walk-in picture
St John's CE Primary School
All 94 pupils at St John's CE Primary
School in Nottingham contributed to this three-dimensional
representation of the Temeraire.
Inspired by the fact that the great fighting ship was
on its way to be broken up and the wood reused, the
children wanted to make an artwork out of recycled materials.
An art student helped the children to realise their
ideas. Plastic bags were knitted together using giant
needles to make the wave in the foreground; the tug
and houses were woven and collaged out of magazines
and bin-liners; and the beads for the sun were made
from recycled paper pulp.
As well as the theme of recycling, the pupils wanted
their piece to reflect Turner’s preoccupation
with colour, texture and depth. |
