Battle batiks
Cropthorne with Charlton CE First School
These colourful batiks were made by
pupils in Class 2 (six to eight years old) and Class
3 (eight to 10 years old) at Cropthorne with Charlton
CE First School in Worcestershire.
Having looked at different boats of the period and studied
the role of the Temeraire in the Battle of Trafalgar,
the children made their own drawings, which were projected
onto material. Batik artists then taught the children
the wax-resist dyeing technique.
The school staged an exhibition of the children's work
during their Art Week, which was open to the public
on May Day for the annual village 'walkabout'. The local
community came together to admire and celebrate their
learning and creativity. |
