Thorpe Greenways Infant
School, Essex
Year 2 (5 and 6 year-olds)
The children worked in groups looking
at various photographs of bridges over the River Seine
and discussed what they could see, including the shapes
and lines of the unusual architecture. Inspired by the
works of various artists they had studied, the students
then created their watercolour paintings.
The pictures evolved through the children revisiting
them and discussing ways in which they could be improved.
They used charcoals to distinguish lines, shadows, ripples
and windows and they experimented with textured watercolour
paper. They were so enthusiastic and skilled in picking
out shapes and details, and also selecting and using
different media for their work.
